About Docker Compose Validator
Docker Compose describes multi-container applications in a docker-compose.yml file: services, images, ports, volumes, networks, and dependencies. YAML indentation errors and mismatched references are common reasons a stack fails to start.
This validator checks the structure of your file, ports, and service dependencies and reports problems before you run docker compose up. It works on the text you paste in your browser and does not contact Docker or any registry.
Common use cases
- Catching indentation and structure errors before deploying.
- Checking that depends_on entries reference existing services.
- Reviewing exposed ports for conflicts.
- Sanity-checking a file copied from documentation.
Frequently asked questions
- Does validation guarantee the stack will run?
- No. It checks structure and references. Image availability, environment values, and host conditions are only found at runtime.
- What does depends_on do?
- It controls start order between services. It does not by itself wait for a service to be ready, so add health checks where needed.
- Do I need the version field?
- Recent versions of Compose treat it as obsolete, but it is harmless in older files.
